Personalization Guide

At Smockadot Kids, we take the latest trends and then add options for personalization that ensure your child gets the very best for the best price! Our Personalization Guide includes Info on Names, plus Etiquette for Children's Monograms... valuable information for ordering personalized clothing.

Choosing Names or Monograms

Parents may have concerns with displaying names on clothing. Smockadot Kids suggests NOT using names for toddlers who are old enough to know their names, but not old enough to realize that strangers can read their names on their clothing. Names are completely appropriate for infants and older children.
Monograms are the perfect option for toddlers, as they allow for clothing to be personalized without revealing too much information about your child. Please refer to the information below on how initials are displayed in a child's monogram.

How Names Are Displayed

Unless otherwise specified, we always capitalize the first name of your child's name. If you want your child's name in lowcaps, you MUST specify when you order.
Standard name display:
Childrens Names - Capitalized Display
Lowcaps available by request:
Childrens Names - Lowcaps Display
We do NOT offer first and middle names OR first and last names. If your child's name is a double first name (i.e. Betty Sue), you MUST let us know when you order.

Monograms for Girls

Traditionally, monograms are displayed as First LAST Middle, with the last initial as the largest. This is correct monogram etiquette for girls of any age. For instance, if your girl's name is Anna Renee Tildown, her monogram would be displayed:
AS:
Childrens Monograms - Correct Girls Monogram
NOT AS:
Childrens Monograms - Wrong Girls Monogram

Monograms for Boys

Boys' monograms are displayed as First LAST Middle from babyhood through childhood. We ALWAYS use this format UNLESS otherwise specified by the customer. (Many people prefer to switch to the First Middle Last format for young men.) For instance, if your boy's name is Christopher Adam Jones, his monogram would be displayed:
AS:
Childrens Monograms - Correct Boys Monogram
NOT AS:
Childrens Monograms - Wrong Boys Monogram
IF you prefer the First Middle Last format for your boy, you MUST specify when you order.

Suggestions on Fonts & Thread Colors

When choosing your font and thread color, keep in mind who your garment is for, as well as its purpose. Script fonts are usually best for dressier outfits and dresses. Fun playful fonts are good for casual outfits for girls or boys. Block fonts are always good for boys, whether the use is casual or dressy.
When choosing thread colors, be sure to consider the color of your outfit. Choose a coordinating color that will not blend in to the fabric. For instance, Bubblegum Pink may not show up well on a pink outfit. Instead, choose a darker pink or a contrasting color that suits the garment well.
